The offered shell and tube heat exchanger gives a comparatively large ratio of heat transfer area to weight and volume. It gives this surface in a form that is easier to construct in a number of sizes and which is mechanically rugged to withstand normal shop fabrication stresses, normal operation conditions as well as shipping and field erection stresses. The basic configuration can be modified in a number of ways to solve special problems.
